TDS rate applicable for FY 2019-20 (AY 2020-21)

Notes:-

  1. Surcharge and Higher Education Cess is not applicable on payments made to residents other than salary.
  2. In case of non-resident surcharge on TDS applicable.
  3. TDS rate becomes 20%, if PAN is not submitted and if the specified TDS rate is less than 20%

What are the changes in TDS for FY 2019-20 (AY 2020-21) compared to previous year?

The Finance Act 2019 has not made any changes in the rate of TDS and same rates as in the financial year 2018-19 continue  for FY 2019-20(AY 2020-21) also except the following:-

  • Threshold limit for Non-deduction of TDS from payment of interest on bank deposits  is increased from  Rs. 10,000 to Rs. 40,000 for all persons other than Senior Citizens.

For senior citizens, the threshold is Rs. 50,000

  • Threshold limit for Non-deduction of TDS from payment of Rent is increased from  Rs. 1,80,000 to Rs. 2,40,000 in a year.
